Is there a part of Bangkok where city living and daily life with a dog genuinely fit together?

For many pet owners, the answer lies along the Sukhumvit corridor between Phrom Phong, Thonglor and Ekkamai. These neighbourhoods combine leafy side sois, a deep bench of expat-friendly services and a good choice of residences that welcome animals.

In this guide we look at where to walk and play with your dog, how to get around when the Skytrain is off-limits for pets, which vets expats use nearby, and which buildings our team has identified as pet-friendly around each BTS station.

Whether you are relocating with a retriever or settling a cat into a new home, the aim is simple: a home that works for every member of the household.

Why Does This Stretch of Sukhumvit Suit Pet Owners?

Phrom Phong, Thonglor and Ekkamai sit side by side along Sukhumvit Road, and many of the residential sois that branch off it are quieter and more walkable than the main road. For a dog owner, that means morning and evening walks close to home rather than a daily trip across the city.

The area has long attracted international residents, so many services are set up with expats in mind. Veterinary clinics, pet supply shops, groomers and cafés are easier to find here than in many other districts, and day-to-day errands in English are rarely a struggle.

Just as important is the housing itself. The neighbourhood mixes low-rise residences on quiet sois with newer high-rise towers, and a good number of them have written pet policies. That gives you real choice, which matters when your shortlist has to satisfy both you and your dog.

What to weigh before you choose a soi

Consider how far the building sits from main-road traffic, how easy the pavements on the soi are to walk, and how you will reach a vet or park without the BTS. These practical details shape daily life with a pet far more than the view from the living room.

Where Can You Walk and Play With Your Dog?

Green space with dog access is limited in central Bangkok, so it helps to know exactly where your dog is welcome before you head out. Two dedicated dog parks are within reach of this part of Sukhumvit.

Benjakitti Forest Park Dog Park

According to Time Out Bangkok's report on the Benjakitti dog park, the Dog Park sits beside the main entrance on Ratchadaphisek Road. Dogs must be kept on a leash, owners must clean up after them, and dogs are not permitted in the park's other zones.

The park is open from 5:00 to 21:00, which makes an early visit before the heat builds a realistic habit.

The Bangkok Post has reported that visitors register online and that a guard checks proof of registration at the dog park entrance. Check the latest requirements before your first visit so you are not turned away at the gate.

Lumphini Dog Park

A newer option opened in 2026 on Witthayu (Wireless) Road. Time Out describes the Japanese-style Lumphini Dog Park as covering more than 3,200 square metres, with separate zones for large and small dogs and off-leash play inside the fenced area.

Time Out also called it Bangkok's ninth dedicated dog park, a sign of how quickly the city's options are growing. For dogs that need a proper run, the off-leash space is a welcome addition.

A note on Benchasiri Park

Benchasiri Park sits right beside BTS Phrom Phong, so it is tempting to assume it suits dog walks. It is not listed as a designated dog park, so we do not recommend taking your dog there.

Everyday walks on the sois

For daily exercise, most owners rely on their own soi and the building's grounds. Walk early or late to avoid the hottest part of the day, carry water, and test the pavement with the back of your hand before your dog walks on it.

Some residences offer outdoor areas where pets are welcome. Ask about these at viewings rather than assuming, as facilities and rules differ from building to building.

How Do You Get Around Bangkok With a Pet?

Transport is where many new arrivals are caught out. Planning ahead makes vet visits, park trips and moving day much smoother.

The BTS Skytrain

Pets are not allowed on the BTS, even inside a bag or carrier. As The Nation reported on the BTSC's July 2022 announcement, only guide dogs and security K-9 dogs are exempt.

In practice, the stations that make these neighbourhoods so convenient for you will not help with your dog. Factor this in when you judge how close a park or vet really is.

GrabPet

GrabPet is Grab's pet-friendly ride service, launched in Bangkok with drivers trained in pet handling. According to Grab's launch announcement and Time Out Bangkok, launch fares started at 95 baht, with GrabPet XL for larger pets from 145 baht.

Launch fares may since have changed, so check the app for current pricing before you book.

Other ways to travel

For regular trips, some owners arrange a trusted private driver or use their own car. Always use a secure carrier or harness, and confirm in advance that the driver is comfortable carrying an animal.

Where Are the Nearest Vets?

Having a vet you trust close to home brings real peace of mind, especially in the first weeks after a move.

A Thailand country guide for pet owners lists vets used by expats in Bangkok, including Thonglor Pet Hospital, which has several branches and offers 24-hour emergency care, and Vet4 Animal Hospital on Sukhumvit.

Save your chosen clinic's number in your phone and plan how you would reach it at night without the BTS.

Cafés, grooming and pet shops

The area is well served by pet-oriented businesses.

Ask your building's management or neighbours for recommendations too; long-term residents often know which places happily welcome dogs inside.

Pet policies are set by each building's juristic person and can change; always confirm in writing before you sign.

Rules on size, weight, number of pets and the areas animals may use differ between buildings, and owners may set their own conditions for individual units.
